1. Nature and geographie notes of Canada
In the nature history Canada was influenced of the ice-time. There are five several kinds of countries:
-the north Appalaches -the Canadian shield
-the Saint Lorenz Lawland -the Inner Plain
-and the high mountains in the west.
In the South-East there are the Appalaches. These are mountains Who are between 100-500 metres high, but sometimes they can be 1000 metres high.
New Foundland is an island at the coast of the North-East of Canada. There you can find a lot of tjords that came into being when the ice of the ice time melted.
The biggest natural area is the Canadian shield. It protects with five million km2 the half area of
Canada. It is between 200 and 600 metres high and it is the oldest geologic part of North America. In the West there is the Canadian part of the mountains that run through the whole west of North- and South America. There are three zones of mountains:
In the East of theRocky Mountains there are the highest topS about 3000 metres high.
Then the central zone. These are mountains that are connected at the east mountains which are also connected at the Coast
mountains. In this mountain range Mt. Lougan, a 6050 m high mountain is placed. It is the second highest mountain of
North America. The Great Lakes, placed in the south of the
Canadian shield, are the biggest freshwater resources ~he world. There are also the famous Niagara
Falls between the IIEriesee' and the IIOntariosee' at the border to the USA. The Niagara Falls can be spilt up in the American Falls and
in the Canadian 'Horseshoef all ' which is 790 metres wide and 50 metres high.
Canada
Before Canada was discovered by the Europeans, there only lived Indians and Eskimos in Canada. They lived from hunting and fishing. The Vikings have been the first Europeans who stepped on the coast of Labrador. 500 years later the Englishmen came to Canada and 100 years later the Frenchmen came there, too. The Englishmen settled in the south of Canada. They mainly
lived from farming and agriculture. The Frenchmen lived at both sides of the "St. Lorenz Strom!" They lived from dealing fur. Shortly Englishmen and Frenchmen started to fight. In the
year 1763 France had to giv~the whole possession they had in Canada to the Englishmen. Nowaday Canada is an independent democratic state which belongs to the commonwealth of Nations. The head of the state is Queen Elizabeth II.
3. Cities
The capital of Canada is Ottawa. In this town there live 700000 people. The house of Parliament which is built in the
"Westminster stil" is very worth seeing. Montreal with its 2900000 inhabitants shows us the picture of a modern American city with skyscrapers. Calgary in the west is an important tourism-town. It got famos because of the Winter-olympic Games and the world champinship in Rodeo. It's the starting point
of tours to the Rocky Mountains -because of the nationalparks the marvellous countryside is very interesting for tourists.
4. Economy
Although only 7% of the area of Canada is used agricultural. Canada is the state (after the USA) which exports the most wheat. Things with are very important for Canada's economy are wood trade, fur trade and fishing. In the area of the Canadian shield there are a lot of mineral ressources. For example there silver gold, platin, uran, lead, iron a.s.o.
Well known Canadian industrie ~firms are Ford Motors, General Motors, Imperial Oil L:T.D. and
Chrysler Canada. For 50% the car-factories own to the USA.
I hope you're now better informed about Canada and you have seen that it isn't just cold there.
