On the 2nd February 1 9 Hugo Chavez was elected president of Venezuela the first time. During his time off office a new era began in Venezuela, the so called Bolivarian Revolution. With it, the form of government changed to socialism.
Although there are still some lacks, the Venezuelan Government under Chavez had many succeeds and they made the country politically and social stronger.
I want to first show you the succeeds and the deficits and then summarize if Venezuela is a model for South-America.
Succeeds:
. The poor people of Venezuela, who weren't integrated now have many new rights for example the right of their own language, culture and territories. They could also elect three representatives for the national assembly, so they could actively take part in politics.
. Women got more rights, one of the most important is, that housework officially counts as proper work, so women who are doing the household are getting a pension
. There is a freedom of press in Venezuela since Chavez. People all around the country are making new television and radio centers and they are supported by the state.
. Million Venezuelans received a piece of land, technologies, loans and access to the market economy.
. The government could increase the number of students at the university about 3 times.
. 8 % of the Venezuelans are happy with their lives, the average of south America is only
7 .
. The CEPAL Economic Commission for Latin America) said, that 1 99 every second person lived under the poverty line, now it decreased to only" 2 .
. Venezuela's democratic reliability is very strong because Venezuela has one of the safest voting systems in America, it is secured by electronic- and paper ballots, a system which is complimented all around the world.
. Chavez has won back control about the independent oil production by making private oil companies national. The employees profited by that by getting better wages.
Deficits
There are some main deficits, which are the following:
. The fist main problem is the dependency of oil, which Venezuela just can't get rid of, although there were many attempts to expand the economy to other parts. At the moment 0% of the export proceeds come from the sale of oil.
. Another big problem is Chavez himself, which first sounds a little strange. But the fact that Venezuela is dependent on only one single charismatic leader is indeed a problem. The attempts of forming an equal strong party, the PSVU failed, because every project of them was dependent on Chavez himself.
. There is a housing crisis in Venezuela, in fact there are 2 million accommodation too less in Venezuela.
. There are still discussions about the exact way Venezuela should go in the future, especially with democracy.
. A survey showed, that the Venezuelans felt like the crime rate was rising, and criminality had become the biggest problem in the country.
Strangely enough only 6% of the Venezuelans reported a crime and the crime rate is smaller than the Latin American average.
Is Venezuela a Model for South-America?
I think all in all you can say that Venezuela is a model for South-Africa because as you can see the positive parts of the revolution dominate. There are of course still some big deficits but the overall Venezuelan Government and Nation changed a lot to the positive side and improved their economy. The folk also got a new feeling of unity
and the people became more confident. If every country in South- America changed
and improved like this, South- America could become a much stronger union.
But the problem mostly is just the people it selves, many people actually don't want democracy, maybe because they don't really know it.
Finally I would say, that Venezuela can act as a model for South- America, at least, that would be a good start.
Hier sieht man was f r eine große Macht Chavez hat.
